Here at Maison SL, a boutique swimwear and designer lingerie shop, we stock an extensive selection of designer swimwear brands so you can always find something to feel good in on the beach.

Here's our guide to the best swimsuits for a long torso as well as some helpful tips on how to choose a bikini or swimsuit.

Top Swimsuits for Long Torsos

One-Piece Swimsuits Designed for Long Torsos

A deep V-neck helps draw the eye down and breaks up the body length, coupled with a high-leg cut makes the perfect bathing suit style for a long torso.

We love this new design by Maryan Mehlhorn, the low hemline is a flattering style element. It adds a subtly seductive, waist-accentuating look, supported by draping that accentuates the feminine silhouette.

Adjustable straps help those blessed with a longer body by allowing you to add those extra inches to the swimsuit.

You could also opt for a square neck like this &Pomona tank swimsuit to help draw the eye across which helps to balance proportions.

High-Cut Bathing Suits & Bikini Bottoms

High-cut swimsuits and bikini bottoms are designed to rise above the hip, exposing more of the leg and creating a longer leg line. This design draws attention upward, effectively elongating the legs and balancing the body's proportions.

This style is particularly beneficial for individuals with longer torsos, helping create a more balanced silhouette by making the legs appear longer.

We love this new swimsuit from Nicole Olivier's new collection, with a low neckline coupled with the high-cut legs combined with a bold graphic print to further break up an elongated torso.

High-Waisted Bikini Bottoms

Logically, it makes sense that the easiest way to shop for a long torso is to buy a 2-piece bikini. Cleverly sidestepping any length issues.

But if you’re still self-conscious about the proportions of your legs to torso in a bikini, there are styles of bikinis that can enhance the length of your legs.

High-waisted bikini bottoms raise the waistline, creating the illusion of shorter torso length and longer legs, resulting in a balanced silhouette.

Bold Patterns and Horizontal Stripes

Swimsuits featuring bold prints or horizontal stripes can add width to your frame, helping to balance a longer torso.

Focusing on tactility through fabric manipulation, the Watercult collection features timeless deep black and invigorating green flash, offering a nostalgic yet modern aesthetic inspired by wellness trends and the search for contemplation and peace.

Cut-Out Swimsuits

Less intimidating than a bikini you could consider a cut-out swimsuit.

Strategically placed cut-outs can break up the length of the torso, adding visual interest and creating the illusion of a shorter torso.

Bathing Suit Styles to Approach with Caution

Here at Maison SL, we always champion women’s personal styles and unique choices, however there are a couple of hints to be aware of when it comes to longer torsos.

  • Vertical Stripes: These patterns can further elongate the body, accentuating a long torso.

  • Low-Rise Bikini Bottoms: Sitting low on the hips, these bottoms can make the torso appear even longer.

How Do You Know If You Have A Long Torso?

A long torso is when your upper body is longer in proportion to your lower body.

Personally, I’ve always known my torso is longer than average as I find some swimsuits and bodysuits to be uncomfortable to wear. The lack of material, usually results in either the shoulders or the groin area digging into my body leading me to be constantly adjusting.

If it’s not clear whether you have a long torso, then there are a couple of tried and tested methods to find out.

One ‘test’ is to measure the length from the top of your head to your groin. If this measurement exceeds half of your total height, you likely have a longer torso. Individuals with longer torsos often have shorter legs in comparison, resulting in a lower hip-line.

Another method is the ‘hand test.’ Stand upright and place your hand horizontally just below your bust. If you can fit more than two hand widths between your bust and your belly button, you likely have a long torso.

Additional Styling Tips for Longer Torsos

It’s well known in the world of fashion that accessories can make or break an outfit, but did you know that they can also play a significant role in balancing your proportions?

  • High-Waisted Sarongs: Tying a sarong at your natural waist can create the illusion of longer legs and a shorter torso.

  • Short Necklaces: A shorter length necklace draws attention upward, balancing the length of your torso.

  • Wide-Brimmed Hats: These add width to your upper body, contributing to a balanced silhouette.

Remember, the key to feeling confident in your swimwear is choosing styles that make you feel comfortable and beautiful.  Have Fun and explore various styles to find what suits you best.
